Two of Western New York's most accomplished and respected musicians
have joined forces to bring the magic of music and musical instruments
into a unique and fun program for children. Between them, Doug Yeomans
and Geoff Perry play and demonstrate a wild collection of guitars,
violins (painted in rainbow colors), banjos, mandolins, bass guitars,
and percussion instruments! In their interactive program they play,
sing, and demonstrate all the instruments.
In their interactive program they play, sing, and demonstrate all the
instruments. Children participate by singing along to familiar tunes as
each instrument's use and musical role is demonstrated.
Doug and Geoff demonstrate each instrument and children get to hear
the differences between them. Children learn what it means to play chords,
melody, and rhythms and how to combine these to make music.
Age appropriate concepts like counting, recognition of shapes, sounds
and function help the class to learn and experience the fun of music
first hand. Doug and Geoff have a great rapport with kids and both have
worked extensively with children.
Doug Yeomans has entertained thousands of children during Erie County's
annual Santa's Park program at Chestnut Ridge. A former member of the
popular Hill Brothers, he has experienced teaching music in schools
first hand, and has been an in-demand private instructor and performer
for 30 years. He is currently producing a children's Lullaby album.
Geoffrey Fitzhugh Perry has been teaching children for nearly
25 years, both privately, and in schools. He currently holds the post
of string director at the Aurora Waldorf School. In 1999 he ran the
Orchestra program at 3 Frontier Elementary schools, has taught a
"Fiddle Jam" class for the Eden School system (is also an author with
a book and CD by the same name that teaches children how to improvise
on the violin), taught Pre-School Gymnastics at Summit Gymnastic Center,
performs children's shows with "Miss Roz" Magorian.
